How to make a coffin treat box using a Cricut

September 4, 2019

Grab your Cricut, plug it in and turn on. Its time to get crafty for Hallowween, and what better way than to make a cute treat box to store candy.

These Coffin Treat boxes are really easy to make, doesn’t take long and are the cutest coffins you’ll ever see.

Supplies Needed:

  • Cricut Maker (or Explore)
  • Cutting mat
  • Scoring wheel or stylus
  • 2 Black 12/12 card stock
  • 1 Silver glitter card stock
  • Glue gun
  • Glue pen
  • Cricut accessories

The first step is to open a new project in design space and add the images you’re going to use.

  • Halloween Coffin (#M399A5
  • Pumpkin (#M3B5E2) which is actually the spider and web
  • Treat with Web (#M84994A4)

Then you’re going to ungroup the coffin (so the two pieces of the coffin are separated) and line them up on top of each other so you only see one and then group them again.

Change the measurements on each image:

  • coffin to 11.5 inches in height and 6.8 inches in width.
  • web to 4 inches in height and 3 inches in width
  • “treat” to 2.9 inches in width and 1.9 inches in height

If you don’t want to make it this size, then put the web and wording on top of the coffin and group them all together and change it to the size you desire.

DONT FORGET to save your project.

Now yo can sent it to cut but don’t forget to choose which machine you’re using. (a maker or one of the Explore machines)

The coffin has scoring lines on them (so you know where to fold)

You can use the scoring stylus or the scoring wheel. If you choose the stylus, just enter it in slot “A” on your machine and your blade in slot”B”.

If you choose the scoring wheel, like I did then it goes in slot “B” then once its done, you will remove it and enter the blade in the same slot “B”.

Design space will let you know when its time to switch from the scoring wheel to the blade.

As you can see, I used black and silver glitter card stock. As for the settings, (if you’re using one of the Explore) turn the dial to the space between card stock and fabric. When cutting the glitter paper change the dial to custom setting then choose glitter card stock from the drop down.

I used the Maker so I chose Medium Cardstock-80lb setting for the coffin and Glitter card stock for the glitter.

Once all you pieces are cut. fold the scored pieces then glue the little tabs

When removing the web and wording, use the spatula tool and be very careful. These pieces are small and intricate so take your time.

Flip the piece over and apply the glue using the glue pen. I just lightly add dots along the design.

Use the tweezer to hold the piece still.

Now you just glue the pieces on to the top of the coffin. (the piece with the zig zag cuts).

And some candy and there you have it. The cutest Coffin Treat Boxes EVER.
