I will be using the Cricut Mug Press to create an easy DIY mug. This project is great for beginner crafters, we’re using the Cricut Mug Press and mug with Infusible Ink.
I want to touch a little on infusible ink because its been getting a little negative attention. There’s nothing wrong with Cricut’s infusible ink sheets. I believe people are not realizing that its great for hobby crafters. But not a good choice for a crafting business. If you’re just making mugs for family and friends, its perfect for you. No need for all the sublimation products unless you want to run a business and you’re making lots of mugs.
So now let get to the project. This design Im using is a ready made project in Design Space. These ready made project, takes the stress out of crafting and makes very easy and beginner friendly. We don’t have to worry about designing or adjusting the size. Just select the project and sent to mat.
Supplies needed:
- Cricut cutting machine (anyone can be used) except the Joy
- Design Space (should be downloaded on your computer/phone/tablet)
- Cricut Mug (you can also use a sublimation blank mug)
- Infusible Ink sheet
- Cricut Mug Press
If you’re more of a visual learner, check out the video tutorial.

Let start by choosing our design. Head to design space and get the “scalloped shaper mug” project. Then select the size mug you’re using, Im using the 12oz.
Once you find the design, you’ll see the Cricut has all of the information listed for you. Click on the project and once it pops up, you’ll be able to scroll down for more info, like the supplies needed, and instructions.
You’ll also have the option to “Customize” or “Make It”. Choose “Make It”. We’re not making any changes to the project.

Now, we’re here. With Infusible Ink projects, most of the time, you will have to mirror your image. For this design its not necessary since its just a swirly line. So, just choose Infusible Ink transfer sheets as the material you’ll be using.
Lay your sheet, Ink side facing up on your mat. Load and Cut.
Once the cut was complete, I removed it off the mat then cut off the extra pieces I didn’t use and put them back in the box.
Infusible ink is not like htv, its a little harder. It has the texture of light card stock. And its easier to move. Just peel off the pieces that won’t be used on the mug, and you’ll just have your swirly design left. Don’t remove it from the transfer paper.

Wrap your design around the mug and the mug is ready to go.
Now plug in your mug press and wait to hear a beep, that’s to let you know its ready for use.
Once its ready, slide your mug into the press and press down the large lever on the side. It’ll enclose the mug tightly. Don’t be afraid to close it all the way, it fells like you’re squeezing the mug but that’s how it works.
Leave it until all the lights light up and it beeps again.
Be very careful when removing it, its very very hot. Take it out slowly and place it in a safe stop. Let it cool a little then peel everything off. And there you have one of the easiest and cutest mugs.
