We all love a cute cut to drink out of, so why not a nightmare before Christmas theme. But of course as a crafter, I had to make it crafty. “Im a Nightmare before Crafting” is an easy project to make, you’ll just need my free svg, a cup, vinyl and your cutting machine.
Supplies:
- Cricut
- Smart Vinyl (optional) you can use regular vinyl if you’re cutting on a mat.
- Free Nightmare Before Christmas svg
- Transfer tape
- Weeding tool
- Reusable coffee cup (I purchased mine from Michaels)
You’re going to start by downloading my free Nightmare before Christmas svg and uploading it into design space.

Once you have it in design space, highlight the entire file and attach it. This will make sure that all the letters stay in the exact place when you send it to the mat. Then change the high of your files to 4 inches.
This is the size I like when making this cup. You can measure the area you want the design to be placed if you dont want it this size.
Also, this file has a lot of small letters so anything smaller than 4 inches would be really difficult to weed.

Remember to save your project, choose any name you like but you want to save your project before cutting it. Then choose the machine you will be sending it to. In my case it’ll be going to the Explore 3. With this machine, you will be asked if you’re cutting with a mat or without. And since Im using smart vinyl, I don’t need a mat.

You can use any vinyl of your choice, brand or color, it’s solely up to you. But, in-order to cut without a mat on the Explore 3 or the Maker 3, you will need smart material.
With vinyl you dont have to mirror your design, just choose the material you’ll be cutting from the drop down menu.
your cut design and your transfer paper Weeded design design with transfer paper placed on top Peel off the design for placement
Once your design is cut, you want to weed it. Weeding just means peeling off the vinyl that’s not being used. This is not a process that you want to rush, take your time, especially with the letters.
Once its fully weeded, place the transfer paper on top of your design, take your time with this process as well. Try to get it as smooth as possible and without bubbles. This will make placing the design on the cup easier. I used the small scraping tool to make sure the vinyl stuck well to the transfer paper by pressing down and sliding it across the design. Just some added pressure.
I cut around the circle, so placement is easier as well.
Now you take your cup and place the design on it. I start from the middle then slowly press down to the outer sides. Use the scarer again to help the design stick to the cut, then peel it off slowly. You want to take your time just incase some of the design didnt stick well, you can press it back down and give it a little pressure then peel again.
And that how we make our “Im a Nightmare Before Crafting” coffee cup.
If you make one, please tag me on IG at thecraftprint so I can share your cup and celebrate with you. Also, comment below and let me know how you feel about this project, will you try it? I would love to know.
