How To Calibrate Your Cricut Machine

December 6, 2023

The Cricut machine has become an indispensable tool for crafters and DIY enthusiasts, offering unparalleled precision and creativity in cutting a variety of materials. To ensure that your Cricut consistently delivers impeccable results, it’s crucial to calibrate the machine properly. Calibration fine-tunes the machine’s settings, allowing you to achieve accurate cuts and intricate designs. In this step-by-step guide, we’ll walk you through the process of calibrating your Cricut machine, ensuring that your crafting projects reach new levels of precision.

When your print and cut projects aren’t cutting correctly (see pic below) then that’s when your machine needs to be calibrated.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

Before you begin the calibration process, make sure you have all the necessary materials at hand. You’ll need:

If you prefer to see the steps on video, I have a YouTube tutorial. Finding the calibration setting has update, so follow the steps listed below. The process is the same.

  1. A Computer or Mobile Device: Ensure that your device is compatible with Cricut Design Space, the software used to control the Cricut machine.
  2. Cricut Machine: Make sure your machine is clean, well-maintained, and properly connected to your computer or mobile device.
  3. Cutting Mat: Choose the appropriate cutting mat for the material you plan to use during calibration.
  4. Material for Calibration: Pick a standard material you frequently work with, such as cardstock or copy paper. (I usually use copy paper)

Step 2: Open Cricut Design Space

Launch the Cricut Design Space software on your computer or mobile device. If you haven’t already, log in to your Cricut account.

Step 3: Access Calibration Settings

In the Cricut Design Space, navigate to the settings menu. Look for the calibration or machine settings option, depending on the version of the software.

  • A- Go to your profile at the top right of the screen and click the drop down button.
  • B- Choose “Settings”
  • C- Click the Machines tab, then hit the drop down button
  • D- Choose which machine you’re using
  • E- Then print your sheet

Step 4: Select Calibration Type

Choose the calibration type based on the material you’ve selected for calibration. Common options include cut pressure, blade calibration, and print then cut calibration.

Step 5: Follow On-Screen Instructions

Cricut Design Space will provide on-screen instructions for the selected calibration type. Follow each step carefully, ensuring that you understand and perform the necessary actions.

You’re going to put the printed image on the mat and load to cut.

You will be prompted to fill out the number (along the top) and letter (along the side) that has the closest cut to it. Then it’ll cut on the square to make sure its a good cut. If the cuts are off then you” have to print a sheet again and do the process again. See YouTube video.

Before & After Calibration.

Step 6: Test Cut

After completing the calibration process, perform a test cut using the same material. Inspect the cut to ensure it meets your expectations. If adjustments are needed, repeat the calibration process or make manual adjustments in the settings.

Conclusion:

Calibrating your Cricut machine is a vital step in achieving precise and accurate cuts for your crafting projects. By following this step-by-step guide, you can ensure that your Cricut consistently delivers high-quality results, allowing you to unleash your creativity with confidence. Regular calibration will keep your machine in top condition, ensuring that it continues to be your go-to tool for all your crafting endeavors. Happy crafting!
