DIY Thankful Coaster

October 15, 2020

Its that time of year when we start reflecting on what we’re Thankful for and this year I think its so important to stop and just be Thankful for everything.

Lets be so Thankful, that even our holiday decor reflects that. These Thankful coasters make a great addition to your holiday set up and you can even use the svg file on more than just your coasters if you like.

So lets get started. Here are the supplies needed for this project

  • Cricut Maker or an Air
  • Cricut Infusible Ink Transfer Sheet
  • Cricut Infusible Ink Coaster
  • Cricut Easy Press Mat
  • Cricut easy Press2 (Small)
  • Free Thankful SVG

After you’ve downloaded your free svg, upload it in to design space.

No changes have to be made, just save. Then select the svg to be added to your Canvas.

Now you have to change the width of the file so it can fit on the coaster. Change it to 3 inches, then highlight the entire SVG and attach it. Attaching it assures that the letter T stays in the front of the word Thankful.

Now the most important part is that you save your project. Once saved to the name you desire, click “Make It”.

MIRROR YOUR IMAGE. This step you don’t want to forget. Then choose the material you’re cutting.

The type of material to choose is “Infusible Ink Transfer Sheets”.

If you’re using the explore Air /Air 2, then set your dial to Custom then choose Infusible Ink Transfer Sheet from the Iron-On section.

Place your sheets on your mat with the ink side facing up.

Now its time to weed your design, which basically means peel off the pieces that aren’t being used. I didn’t use the weeding pool because this material is a little thicker that regular vinyl sheets. It has the consistency of cardstock.

I just peeled them off manually.

  • Place your design (face down) on top of the coaster.
  • Then you lay the butcher paper on top. (which comes in the box)

The Easy Press 2 needs to be set at 400 degrees. You can do that by turning it on then pressing the button with the themometer then continually pressing the + button until you get to 400. The button with the clock on it is used to change the amount of time needed, which we will set to 60 seconds.

If you have the first Easy Press, set it to 400 degrees and 120 seconds.

Once the press has heated up to 400 the signal will turn Green. Place the press on top of the coaster (covering the entire design) Press the button to start the count down and leave it there. No pressure needed. Once the 30 seconds (or 60 if you’re using the original Easy Press) is done, remove the press. Be very careful, the Coaster will be extremely hot. Let the coaster cool down then peel off the paper and you’re done.

Let me know if you try it out yourself.

As an added bonus, here’s 11 other free files along with step by step instructions on how to create them from some talented crafters.
