Acrylic Christmas Ornaments are a must have lately. Honestly they’re my favorite. And I know us Crafters love a DIY project.
Just to let you know, this is very easy and the best part is you can match it to any themed tree. And if you’re like me and switch themes often, then its easy to just make your ornaments to match instead of searching all over the place.
The supplies you’ll need are
- Blank Acrylic Ornaments (these are from my Etsy shop)
- Acrylic paint
- Paint Bruch
- Ribbon
- Vinyl (you can cut any word or name you like)
- Cutting machine

These blank acrylic ornaments are sold in my Etsy shop. You’ll receive them with the protective paper on. This will avoid them being scratched in transit.
I use my weeding tool to peel it off. If you’re going to use this tool then you must be really careful. If you rather be safe than sorry, use gorilla duct tape and thatll take it off clean. Honestly, you really dont need any. You can use your nail to pick up a corner and just peel it right off.
The vinyl Im using is the Cricut Shimmer Smart Vinyl , this vinyl has to be used with the Explore 3 or the Maker 3. It is made to be used with these machines because you dont need a mat. It also comes with the transfer tape that roll need to adhere it to the ornament. But you can use any vinyl of your choice.
I like this one because of the shimmer.
I chose a Design space file to make mine. I like the font that’s used for the word Merry. Again, you can cut anything you like, a saying, a name, even an image. If you choose and image, then you’d need printable vinyl to do a print and cut then add it to the front of the ornament.
I sized my wording at little over 2.5 inches in width because the ornament is 3 inches. I always cut more than I need because I tend to mess up a lot.
Now its time for weeding. I peeled the excess vinyl off, then used my weeding tool along with a weeding ring to take off the little pieces in between the letters. The weeding ring is used to hold those small pieces so I make sure they dont stick anywhere else.
Lay your transfer tape over you design and press down on it so the transfer tape sticks well to the vinyl. Then peel it off. The back of the vinyl looks silver.
To make sure the word is straight, I lay my ornament on my mat and line it all up. Once your design is on the ornament, press down again to make sure it sticks to it, then peel the transfer paper off.
Now its painting time.
Flip your ornament over, dab a small amount of paint where you want it to be. Then use your paint brush or a sponge brush to spread the paint. I ended up painting 3 layers because I didnt want a thin layer of paint. I let each layer dry for about and hour.

After my main color dries, I added the gold and the glitter paint to the top and bottom of the design. It looks a little sloppy on the back but when you flip it over it looks Amazing.
Also, if you’re worried about it chipping a little you can add some mod-podge or UV resin over it.
