With all of the tools available from Cricut, things tend to get a little bit confusing. But don’t worry because that’s what Im here for.
We’re going to start with the blades.
Reminder: You do not need to purchase a housing for every blade. Just one is fine and when you need to use a different blade you can just switch it out.

Premium Fine Point Blade (with housing)
Blade: $14.99
Blade and Housing: $34.99
This is the most common blade used, its also the blade that included when you purchase your machines. I use this blade most of the time and it last really long. The housing is just the part that holds the blade for the machine.
I use my Cricut’s 4-7 days a week and I probably have to change my blade every 4-6 months, sometimes longer.
This blade is made from long-lasting German carbide. It cuts most lightweight to medium-weight materials, like cardstock, faux leather and vinyl.
I use it on card stock, vinyl, glitter card stock, acetate paper and more.
It can be Cricut Explore One/Air/Air2 and Maker machines in either the gold Premium Fine-Point Housing or the silver Fine-Point Housing
Also, if you already have the housing, you can purchase just the blade alone or a pack of just blades.

Deep Point Blade & Housing
Blade: $16.99
Blade and Housing: $34.99
The Deep-Point Blade has a steeper blade angle (60 degrees vs 45) , its harder, and more durable steel. You can cut most materials up to 1.5mm.
You can also purchase the blade alone without the housing.
Some of the material you can cut with this blade are:
- Magnet
- Chipboard
- Posterboard
- Stamp material
- Thick cardstock
- Stiffened felt
- Foam sheets
- Cardboard
You can use it in your Air/Air 2/ and Maker.

Bonded Fabric Blade & Housing
This set is $34.99 as well but I Cricut’s website does not have the blade sold alone. One bonded-fabric cutting blade made from premium German carbide steel plus blade housing
This blade is used for cutting bonded fabric or fabric with an iron-on backer
The color of the blade is made to match the fabric mat.
Like the others, it can be used with the Air/Ari2/ and Maker.

Knife Blade & Housing
Price: $45.99
This blade can only be used with the Cricut Maker and requires its own housing. However you can purchase replacement blades for the housing.
It can cut a variety of materials, such as:
- Balsa wood, up to 3/32”
- Matboard, 2-ply or 4-plyBasswood, up to 1/16″
- Craft foam, up to 3mmTooling leather, up to 7 oz
- Garment leather, up to 5oz
- Cricut Chipboard, 2mm

Rotary Blade & Drive Housing
Price: $44.99
Just like the Knife Blade, the Rotary Blade is also only for use with the Cricut Maker.
This blade does not have a replacement piece, you would have to purchase another one if its damaged.
Its made of stainless steel and used to cut multiple materials.
Such as:
- Cotton
- Silk
- Denim
- Quilt batting
- Tissue paper
- Canvas
- Burlap
- Lace
- Felt
- Unbacked fabric
- Tissue paper
- Mulberry
- and more
Using the pink fabric mat is highly recommended.
The latest set of tools, which I really Love are the Quick Swap Tools. These tools can only be used on the Cricut Maker. You only need one housing for them and each piece can be swapped out when you need to use the other. So do not purchase a house for each piece unless you really want to bus as I stated, it isn’t necessary.

You can purchase all as a full set for $189.99. Its sometimes on sale for $113.99.
This set Includes:
- QuickSwap Housing
- Single Scoring Wheel Tip
- Double Scoring Wheel Tip
- Engraving Tip
- Wavy Blade
- Perforation Blade Tip
- Debossing Tip
Or if you only want one, you can purchase the housing with the tip you prefer then when you need another you can just go back and purchase the tip alone.
This system is great because you can switch to another tip fast and easy. You just have to press the button on the top, remove the tip then add on another one and you’re ready to go.
Cricut also sells tip bundles, which Ill add to the bottom after I describe each tip for you.
$44.99 $24.99
You can purchase the Quick Swap Housing as a set or just the Engraving Tip alone. (used with the Maker only)
Sometimes they go on sale for $14.99 and $24.99.
This tip is made of premium carbide steel and can be used to create engraved dog tags, jewelry, wood carvings and more.
Some to the materials it can be used on are:
- flat soft metals
- acrylic
- leather
- anodized aluminum
- plastic
$44.99 $24.99
The quick swap housing set can sometimes go on sale for $26.99 and the deposing tip alone can go on sale for $14.99
They can only be used with the Maker.
A quote from Cricut’s website:
“Unlike embossing folders, which lock you into a specific design, this rolling debossing ball, powered by your Cricut Maker, gives you free reign to customize, personalize, and design with incredible intricacy. Make a dimensional wedding card, thank you card with your monogram, or add flourish to gift boxes, tags, and more. Creates a stunning effect on foil cardstock, coated paper, shimmer and glitter paper, foil cardstock, and much more.”
So basically you’re able to create embossed designs without having to use a folder.
Materials that it can be used on are:
- cardstock
- foil poster board
- foil cardstock
- foil kraft board
- poster board
- kraft board and more
$49.99 $29.99
You can purchase the Quick Swap Housing as a set or just the Engraving Tip alone. (used with the Maker only)
This tip creates uniform finely perforated lines so you can make tear off and easy peel away projects, like raffle tickets, tear away projects, coupons, or advent calendars.
It can be used on:
- paper
- cardstock
- foam
- acetate
- foil
- fabrics
$49.99 $29.99
You can purchase the Quick Swap Housing as a set or just the Engraving Tip alone. (used with the Maker only)
This tip creates a wavy edge on your projects, so instead of a straight cut it gives a zig zag like cut. It’ll be perfect for cards, envelopes, collage projects, kids’ crafts.
You can use this tool on:
- iron-on
- vinyl
- paper
- cardstock
- fabric and more
Theres two scoring wheels to choose form, the single and the double.
You can also purchase either the combo with both tips and the housing, just the single scoring tip, just the double scoring tip, or the single scoring wheel and the housing.
These tips are on sale sometimes for $17.99 each.
They create extra-deep score lines for perfect folds and a flawless finish on both thick and thin materials. If you’re unsure what a score line is its just the fold. So if you’re creating a card that folds in the middle, you make a score line so you know where to fold.
Its mostly used on card stock (thick or thin) and it has up to 10x more pressure than the scoring stylus. Ive used it and it really does. I prefer the scoring wheel over the scoring stylus.
I have all of theses tool and I definitely recommend them, if you dont have a need for them all then purchase the ones you’ll need. You won’t be disappointed.
